A Fun Ride For Everyone
Saturday, October 4 2008
from Downtown Cape Pavillion - Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Offering Rides of:
  • 100 Miles
  • 62 Miles
  • 30 Miles
  • 15 Miles
The Tour de Cape has been listed as a "Reader's Choice" ride in October for the state of Missouri in Bicycling Magazine. "Tour de Cape" will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008, and will originate in historic downtown Cape Girardeau, MO. Riders have a choice of an 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. mass start from the John Boardman Pavilion by the riverfront.

2007 Tour Director Patrick Koetting said, "Riders may choose from a century ride (100 miles), a metric century (62 miles), a mid-length 30-mile or a leisurely 15-mile route. The 62 and 100 mile routes will cross the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge spanning the Mississippi venturing into Illinois".

Because the event is a tour, not a race, riders are encouraged to ride at a rate appropriate to their training and ride objectives. "We want everyone to take home many great memories of the scenic Ozark foothills." The routes will wind through terrain that includes easy-ride flat stretches, rolling hills as well as a few challenging hills. Rest Stops with "food and fluids" will be conveniently located along the routes. SAG support with a mechanic will also be provided

Entry fees will continue to aid children utilizing The Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship, a non-profit program that provides children with disabilities therapy using horses. Fees will also help support Educational Scholarships for Cape County high school students, as well as community projects at home and abroad.

The Early Registration Fee is $25.00 if postmarked by September 20th, after that date registration is $30.00. Children 14 and under are free with on adult registered rider. Entry fee includes: event bag and a chance for attendance prizes. An early entry fee also includes a commemorative event t-shirt.

Each participant will be required to review and sign a release of liability in order to participate. For participants under the age of 18 years, additional consents are required and a designated responsible adult must accompany the participant. See the required forms and information under the "Entry" tab.

Comments About Last Year
Once again I want to tell you guys what a great job on the ride Saturday! We rode the 65 mile route and really enjoyed it, especially the loop around Horseshoe Lake! The rest stops were great and spaced just right! The route was marked well.

Another enjoyable ride in spite of the rough roads in Illinois and ever present winds. The volunteers at all the rest stops need to be thanked for all their efforts. This is one of the most pleasant rides that I have done all year.

Just wanted to drop you a line and say how much fun I had at my first Tour De Cape. It was a great experience and a lovely ride all the way around. The rest stop folks were especially nice and the snacks were very tasty.
